Our Teams
From first kicks to competitive junior football, there is a place for every player at Fernhill.
MiniRoos
MiniRoos is Football Australia's program for players aged 5–11. Fun-first, skill-building football on smaller pitches with modified rules designed for young players. Every session is about movement, confidence, and enjoying the game.
The very first football experience. Short, energetic Saturday morning sessions centred entirely on movement, balance, and having fun with the ball. At this age it's all about sparking a love of the game, and everything else follows from there.
Building on the basics, players learn to dribble, pass, and play alongside teammates in a relaxed, encouraging atmosphere. Small-sided games introduce the thrill of competition while keeping the focus firmly on enjoyment and confidence.
Players begin to develop a real feel for the game through small-sided matches and skill-based activities. Sessions build first-touch control, shooting, and basic defensive awareness, all while keeping the atmosphere fun and positive throughout the season.
A step up in structure and skill. Players start to understand positional awareness, movement off the ball, and how to work together as a unit. The season builds teamwork and communication while individual ball skills continue to sharpen week by week.
Players transition to larger pitches and more structured Saturday fixtures. The season focuses on applying skills in a real game setting: reading the play, making decisions under pressure, and developing the habits that carry through to junior football.
The final MiniRoos year and a big one. Players consolidate everything they have learned and begin preparing for the step up to junior football. The season focuses on game understanding, physical development, and building the mental resilience to take on new challenges.
Junior Girls
Girls football is one of the fastest growing areas of the game. Fernhill is committed to equal opportunity, quality coaching, and a welcoming environment for girls of all ages and abilities.
A safe, fun introduction to football for girls aged 5–11. Sessions focus on movement, ball confidence, and building friendships on the pitch. No experience needed, just enthusiasm and a willingness to give it a go. Players develop at their own pace in a fully supportive, non-competitive environment.
Competitive girls football in a supportive, high-quality environment. Players compete in Football South Coast competitions across the season, with structured mid-week training sessions focused on skill, fitness, and tactical development. We are actively growing our girls program and welcome players of all experience levels.
Junior Boys
Our junior boys compete in Football South Coast competitions across the Wollongong region. Training is structured, coaching is genuine, and development comes first. Every player matters, every game counts.
The first taste of full junior competition. Players step up to an 11-a-side format on a full-size pitch and begin mid-week training sessions. The season is about making that transition confidently: building fitness, game sense, and the team bonds that make football so special at this age.
A season of real development. Players grow their tactical understanding, improve their fitness base, and learn to perform consistently week after week. Training focuses on both individual technique and how to function as a team unit across a full season of competition.
Competitive football with a sharp focus on team shape, pressing, and individual skill under pressure. Players at this age begin to develop real football intelligence: understanding space, timing, and how to influence a game. A pivotal year in any young player's development.
High-intensity competition that demands the best from every player. The season builds physical conditioning, mental toughness, and the discipline to win the right way. Players learn to handle pressure, manage setbacks, and bring their best consistently. These are skills that last well beyond football.
One of the most demanding and rewarding years in junior football. Training sessions are structured, challenging, and purposeful, preparing players for the physical and tactical demands of senior football. Players who come through this season leave with the tools to compete at the next level.
The final junior year, and a milestone season. Players compete with the experience and maturity built across many years at the club and begin bridging the gap to senior football. Leadership, accountability, and a genuine love of the game are what define this group.
When Do We Train?
Training days and times vary by age group and are confirmed at the start of each season. MiniRoos typically play Saturday mornings at Ray Robinson Oval. Junior teams train mid-week with Saturday fixtures.
